Woodlands man part of team receiving patent for downhole forces measurement tool

A Woodlands man is among a team of inventors that received a U.S.
patent last week for a new measurement tool that can be used in oil
and gas wells.

According to the patent, the device is designed to detect and deliver
information about forces operating on tools in wells deployed in
phases of the operation other than drilling. The inventors say the
device will help engineers better understand factors such as tension,
compression, torque, acceleration, pressure and temperature.

The inventors credited with the new device are Lawrence G. Griffin of
Houston, Randy Blackmon of La Porte, Philippe Legrand of The
Woodlands and Glenn McColpin of the Memorial area of Houston. The
patent's official number is 7,878,266 and it was originally filed on
Aug. 24, 2007. The patent is owned by the Houston offices of
Halliburton Energy Services.
