Continued tax exemptions approved by LSC board
The Lone Star College board of trustees unanimously approved the 2012 tax exemption allowances at its June 7 meeting, keeping exemptions the same as they were in 2011.
All homeowners in the college system taxing jurisdiction are eligible for a $5,000 homestead exemption.
Disabled residents and those older than 65 are also eligible for a $75,000 property tax exemption and tax freeze for 2012. Taxpayers eligible for the property tax exemption will automatically qualify for the tax freeze, even if the property value increases.
Property tax bills delivered at the end of the year will reflect the frozen amounts.
